Check out the review of the brand-new 2012 Kia Sorento Crossover

Kia_sorento

Having driven both the 2012 Sorento Crossover SUV for this review (and the 2012 Kia Rio for a review still to come), I was struck by the upgrade in overall build quality and features throughout the line from even recent years’ models. While Kia might’ve been looked at as a strictly affordable, more stripped down option for buyers looking to buy cheaper than German, the automakers has stepped up its collective game to start making some quality, but still affordable vehicles.

The new Sorento’s collection of features and driver quality positions it well to compete with similar sized, in-class vehicles such as the Subaru Outback, Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4. The vehicle went through a major redesign in 2011. While the 2012 has a few upgrades, the modern styling stays close to last year’s look.

You can get a four-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection for more power and better fuel economy. Otherwise, standard issue includes a 2.4 liter V4 engine with a manual transmission (optional automatic), Bluetooth, iPod connector, satellite radio (optional with subscription), side/curtain airbags, stability control and traction control.

You can throw in options like a heated driver’s seat, upgraded sound system and the newly redesigned Kia UVO voice activated interface.

In the cargo and passenger carrying department, the Sorento is a crossover – a smaller than traditional SUV – that’s still big enough to carry three rows of passengers. If you want to move the third row of seats out of the way, you open enough a large enough cargo bay for several bags of groceries, more than one golf bag.

In honor of National Car Care Month, here’s another tip from us to help you save gas.

Coveredparking
Summer is fast approaching and the hot sun that makes the inside of your car feel like a sauna also zaps fuel from your gas tank...So go for the shade! If you let your car bake in the sun, there's going to be a greater amount of evaporative emissions that take place than if you park in a shaded area.

With the K9's domestic market launch drawing nearer, Kia has published a new trio of photos as well as the first official television ads for its new full-size, rear-wheel-drive sedan.

Two of the new photos provide us our first glimpse at the luxury model's interior including the instrument panel and part of the steering wheel as well as Kia's very BMW-like automatic transmission shifter and parking brake button and infotainment system control knob.

Kia says that the K9 will be equipped with an array of technological and safety features such as a latest generation, full-color heads-up display, full adaptive LED headlamps and a large 12.3-inches LCD screen for the infotainment system.

Furthermore, Kia revealed that the K9 will launch in South Korea this summer with two engine options, a 3.3-liter V6 rated at 296HP (300PS) and a 3.8-liter V6 producing 329HP (334PS).

More details are to be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, head down to watch Kia's four new commercials for the K9.

NEW YORK, April 9, 2012 - At the 2012 New York International Auto Show opening ceremony this weekend, Kia Motors America (KMA) joined forces with the Wounded Warrior Project, a national organization dedicated to providing help and raising public awareness for injured service members, to donate a 2012 Kia Soul hatchback to disabled veteran and United States Army Corporal Christopher Melendez. Melendez was injured in the line of duty while on routine patrol in Iraq by a "six pack shape charge" IED, resulting in severe leg and arm injuries. Working with the organizers of the New York International Auto Show, the Soul was modified to meet Melendez's specific day-to-day needs. This donation comes directly on the heels of Kia's donation to Camp Pendleton Armed Services YMCA's Operation Hero program in coordination with brand ambassador and professional women's golfer Michelle Wie.

"Kia Motors understands that it is not only important to show our commitment to the U.S. market through investment and job creation, but also to support the servicemen and women in our country's armed forces," said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing & communications, KMA. "The Wounded Warrior Project provides invaluable services to the men and women who have been injured in the line of duty, and it is an honor to donate one of our most popular vehicles to Corporal Melendez as a way to show our appreciation and support for those who have sacrificed so much."

The 2012 Soul, retrofitted by New York-based Bussani Mobility Team was modified specifically to allow Corporal Melendez to continue with his daily activities through modifications that assist when flexibility is limited. The modifications include a steering wheel device that allows him to turn the steering wheel using one hand, while maintaining complete control of the wheel and car at all times, however all alterations are easily removable to allow others who do not need them to drive the vehicle safely.

    National Car Care Month Tip

    Errands
April is National Car Care Month and we want to share a tip with you to keep your vehicle running smoothly year round: Consolidate your short driving trips. Most of the wear and tear - as well as the pollution your car generates - takes place in the first few minutes of driving. Doing several errands at once, during low traffic hours if possible, will keep your engine happier longer.
